Some men's basketball notes as transfer portal action heats up

After the NBA Draft withdrawal deadline, there's another wave of transfer portal action that K-State will take advantage of, especially with two open spots remaining on their roster.

Normally, this would be a notebook, and I might turn it into one tomorrow, but this is what I know (as of right now)...

Visitor
-Kentucky transfer Ugonna Onyenso will be visiting K-State next week, likely early in the week. Onyenso averaged 3.6 points and 4.8 rebounds per game last season but was one of the best rim protectors in the country.

I heard North Carolina was interested in him at one point, but I'm not sure where they stand right now. Same with Louisville, who has open roster spots and NIL available. K-State will be competitive in this recruitment but I'm not ready to say they're favorites or what sort of momentum they have.

Kaluma update
-Arthur Kaluma also didn't stay in the NBA Draft, choosing to continue his college career.

I don't know where K-State stands in this, but I know there was some momentum previously that he would return to K-State for his final season of eligibility. Honestly, I don't want to give you guys any firm answer because I truly don't know where he stands in his recruitment, and if he plans on taking other visits.

K-State will go after another wing or big guard it appears, which would open up the door for AK.

Quick recruiting note on a Texas WR K-State is targeting

Sorry for the lack of articles today, working on bigger pieces for tomorrow — including an interview with Aniya Foy.

I was texting Terrence Lewis yesterday, and he told me that he will not be visiting K-State officially during the summer.

Doesn’t appear like this is a concern for K-State but rather how Lewis is playing his recruitment.

Two dates to watch for any commitment. July 22nd is the currently scheduled date, but he may push that back to Christmas.

K-State is in a good spot with Lewis, and might even be the favorites in his recruitment. They’ve been after him for a LONG time. If I were to place a FutureCast, it wouldn’t be until a few weeks before his commitment.

OT: PopTart Bowl Poster

I am looking for the above referenced poster from last year. There were piles of them in the team hotel lobby in Orlando. It's a long story, but somehow I did not get home with one. If you happened to have grabbed some and have an extra you would not mind sharing I would appreciated it. Will provide cell phone number for text if you have one to spare.

OT: Are the "fightin" Royals legit?

From USA Today:

Royals: Legit

We signaled our belief in these cats a few days ago, and they since went out and swept a division rival while knocking off the best pitcher in the AL to date. There simply comes a time when a team on the rise gets over the hump of conviction, which only makes them play even better.

The Royals are there, and with some vital signs that look encouraging for sustainability.

Of note: They rank fourth in the majors in runs but just 16th in home runs, with 52. You might say power doesn’t disappear, but it can slump, and with MVP candidates Bobby Witt Jr. and Salvador Perez blanketed by a contact-conscious lineup that ranks No. 2 in fewest strikeouts, the Royals are a tough out every night.

Naturally, their pitching’s staying power may tell all, but that Seth Lugo is pitching like an All-Star and Cole Ragans keeps taking steps toward acehood means a significant piece of that is in place.

K-State to receive payment from EA Sports for College Football 25

According to cllct Media, K-State will receive $59,925.09 from EA Sports for the new College Football 25 video game that will be released in July of this year.

Payouts were based on a tiered system that took into account a team's finish in the AP Top 25 poll over the last ten seasons. The Wildcats placed in the second tier, as only 13 schools were placed in the top tier. Schools are also set to receive more money depending on the success of the video game.

More information is available in the article, which I'll link here;

WBB: 2025 G Aniya Foy set to announce commitment today

K-State is heavily involved, and they've been trying to get this over the line. Foy is one of the top guards in the 2025 class, averaging 19.8 points over three seasons of varsity basketball. Last year, she averaged 23.9 points and 8.6 rebounds per game.

It's possible that this was the "cat signal" that HC Jeff Mittie had a few weeks ago.
