FB Recruiting: Thoughts on Linkon Cure, Bryson Hayes, and more

It's crazy that Kansas State only has one football commitment for the 2025 recruiting class in April.

It's not anyone's fault or for a lack of trying, but the schedules have changed for most recruits. Now, they want to get on campus for official visits, which normally take place in June and July.

As a result, commitments are delayed as recruits work through the process. That's why it's not cause for concern that the Wildcats have just one commitment. It's the reality of the college football schedule, and the coaching staff can't fix that.

Regardless, here are some thoughts on top targets for K-State and a few under-the-radar prospects that could be gems for K-State.

Coaching Carousel: Discussion Thread

Starting a thread to just track what’s going on at Kentucky, in case anyone wants to discuss it.

As of now, it appears that Scott Drew is the top candidate for the job. That would, of course, open up the Baylor job.

Tang would likely be a candidate if it opened up, but it doesn’t appear like he would take that job (see the edit)

EDIT (April 9): I don’t get the sense that Tang would take the Baylor job, though he’d likely get offered it. As a result, I changed the title since it might appear misleading.

Ayoka Lee returns to Manhattan with unfinished business

---
Sunday was a good day for women's basketball.

In the afternoon, undefeated South Carolina played Iowa and record-breaker Caitlin Clark in the National Championship, drawing a record crowd to ABC.

Then, just hours later, Kansas State center Ayoka Lee announced her intentions to return to Manhattan for one year of eligibility.

We'll let you decide which event is more prominent but the fact is that K-State left Saturday looking like winners.

"This is an iconic time in women's athletics," head coach Jeff Mittie said. "I think that we're coming off a year where there were more eyeballs on women's sports than ever before. ... I think Yoki is one of those players that, going into next year, will have an opportunity to be the face of women's basketball."

Team needs for K-State men's basketball as the dead period ends

As the dead period ends on April 11, Jerome Tang and Kansas State are expected to be busy in the transfer portal to help retool a roster that finished on the bubble for the NCAA Tournament.

To date, K-State has added one transfer to their roster: Michigan transfer Dug McDaniel. McDaniel projects to start at point guard for the Wildcats, filling at least one spot in their starting lineup for next season.

K-State currently has four scholarships available for next season, though that number can change depending on decisions from Ques Glover, David N'Guessan, and Arthur Kaluma.

For consistency purposes, we're operating under the sense that all three players are returning, though that appears unlikely. As a result, we are assuming the Wildcats have space for four more players.

Here is a look at some of K-State's current team needs as the transfer portal starts to heat up.

Pres. Linton’s wife is a life coach - not kidding

How do we keep ending up with these weird ass people leading the university?

Kirk Schulz’s wife gave us EcoKat and we still haven’t lived that down on the internet.

Now we have Linton leaking stories with the media months after he torpedoed the basketball program.

It shouldn’t be that hard to hire someone who understands the Midwest and Kansans. Just be a normal human and you’d be fine.

WBB: A note to watch about Ayoka Lee's potential return

The deadline to declare for the WNBA Draft was April 1st for anyone still not playing in the NCAA Tournament, which included K-State.

There has been no announcement from Lee (or K-State ) about whether she declared, so it doesn't appear like she did - though it's possible she did with no announcement.

That doesn't mean Lee will return - professional opportunities outside of basketball will await her - but it's certainly something to watch as she has one year of eligibility remaining.
