KSU offered the 6'8" 190 JR wing Reece from Vashon HS in St. Louis last night. Reece also has offers from St. Louis U. and Duquesne. Last night, he had 16 pts and 8 boards helping Vashon defeat St. Mary's HS 72-68 in OT and advance to a state quarterfinal matchup on Saturday against Sikeston HS.
Reece is the HS teammate of KSU signee Levi Stockard (6'8" 245 PF/C) at Vashon. Vashon also has a SOPH CG, 6'1" Mario MicKinney, that KSU has also offered. It will be interesting to see if Vashon, currently 25-3 on the season, can repeat as MO Class 4 State Champs.
When Vashon played at the Topeka Invitational in January, I was able to watch Reece in person. The most impressive aspect of his game at this point is his perimeter jump shot. Very smooth and accurate shot from deep, that skill is even more valuable when you consider his size. He is also a reasonably good athlete and a decent passer. Although fairly slight of build at this time, he is not afraid to mix it up in the paint and compete for rebounds. Given his outside shooting ability and decent perimeter skills, I think he projects to seeing time at the 3 and as a stretch 4 at the next level.
