Fan found a statistic that i find fascinating and worthy of further exploration.. and instead of ruining his fantastic gif thread, we can discuss it here.. here's the part of the post
OSU 1st half
Kstate - 5 possessions, 3 tds, 1 fg, 1 punt
60% td rate, 80% score rate
Baylor - 6 possessions, 2 tds, 2 punts 2 picks
33% td and score rate
Texas – 6 possessions 2 FGS, 3 punts, 1 int
0% TD rate, 33% score rate
OU 1st half
K-State – 3 possessions, 1 td, 2 fg
33% td rate, 100% score rate
WVU – 5 possessions 1 td, 3 punts, 1 int
20% td rate, 20% score rate
Texas – 8 possessions, 2 tds, 2 fgs, 2 punts, 1 int, 1 fumble
25% td rate, 50% score rate
TCU – 6 possessions, 3 tds, 1 fg, 1 missed fg, 1 punt
50% td rate, 67% score rate
Iowa State 1st half
K-State – 6 possessions, 2 tds, 2 fgs, 2 punts
33% td rate, 67% score rate
Baylor – 5 possessions, 1 td, 2 fg, 1 missed fg, 1 punt
20% td rate, 60% score rate
Ku (lol) – 7 possessions 5 tds, 1 fg, 1 punt
71% td rate, 86% score rate
the 3 opponents have played 10 total teams.. for OK State, we were the worst performance on defense without argument. Against ou, TCU allowed a higher TD rate. and we are clearly 2nd behind ku for ISU... and we haven't forced a first half TO yet
so i know the popular narrative right now is we've simply faced hard teams, which is true, but we've been about the worst against them in the non-ku division. and really, what the heck is klandy doing during the week if these are the 1st half performances? is he not trying? is je just not good enough?
and in conclusion... Klandy has got to go. at a minimum, his performance requires a demotion, but if results actually matter, it's probably time to go
quick note, i used espn's drive summaries which are just wrong in cases (counted missed FGs as makes etc, counted a made FG in the 1st for ISU as points in the 2nd half) so these could be slightly off, but thought i caught most of the confusionI usually don't do a lot with the defense here, but here are the drive rate stats by quarter for the defense this year and in Big 12 play only. The first half has been brutal for the K-State defense as opponents score nearly 80% (!!!!) of their drives with a touchdown rate over 40%. That's not sustainable in this league, especially facing Top 7 Top 50 offenses and 5 that rank in the top 25.
