These things stand out to me...
For all the talk of 3rd quarter problems, the 1st quarter was equally as bad. 1.90 PPD and K-State actually scored TDs more frequently. Granted, the 3rd quarter punt rate is awful along with the number or 3 and outs. Still, when it comes to scoring points they were the same.
1st half is only slightly better than the 2nd half and again K-State was better at scoring TDs in the 1st half. Biggest issue in the first half was turning the ball over nearly 14% of the time.
Here is the offense with only Will Howard.
A drop off, but not a big surprise. Interceptions were the biggest impact, but in terms of scoring rate (TDs and FGs) and yardage rate, the impact wasn't huge. More of a drop off in the 1st and 3rd quarters, which could show the value of having experience with a QB that can make the adjustments to different looks versus having to coach up an inexperienced guy that isn't able to see those things as clearly.
As much as we talked about 3rd quarter offense, the 3rd quarter defense was equally as bad. I'm fine with saying some of that was due to the poor offense and more pressure on the defense, but there were numerous games where that didn't matter.
The TD rate, FG rate, yardage rate, and punt rates were all particularly bad in the 3rd quarter (compare to Big 12 averages). Teams scored on 57% of possessions, that's tough to overcome.
The 2nd quarter wasn't much better, with TDs occurring 42% of the time. It was pretty much a punt or a touchdown against K-State in the 2nd accounting for 86% of the drives.
