Father Time has come calling for the Legend, I just hope the transition is done with some class.

Of the names that are being tossed around, I would be most excited about Venables, Leavitt, & Litrell

Brent Venables
PROS: great defensive coach, great recruiter, Kansas born, K-State player & former coach, & age.
CONS: never been a head coach
Verdict: I can't imagine the fan base being more fired up about a hire than if it was Brent. The question I would have for Brent (if he was interested in the job), does he have a talented OC that he can bring with him to K-State.

Clearly the problem with OU's defense had little to do with Brent and lot to do with Mikey... funny that the Stoops boys pushed Brent out and tried to make him out to be the goat.

Jim Leavitt
PROS: Former HEAD coach that put South Florida on the map, coaching experience in the NFL (that is a draw for recruits), former K-State coach, has had success everywhere that he has been. A good recruiter with ties in Florida and west coach.
CONS: age ... he is 61 (though he's 4 years younger than Les Miles)
Verdict: next to Brent Venables, I can't imagine the fanbase being more fired up about a hire. Personally, I would be just as happy with Jim as I would be with Brent (the fact that Leavitt has been a head coach is big plus for me).

Sith Litrell
PROS: a young, fiery, up and coming head coach, former Big 12 player, great success at North Texas, appears to be a very good recruiter with a lot of Texas and Oklahoma ties.
CONS: small sample size
Verdict: I would be excited and happy if Sith was hired. Though, sometimes a coach that has success at a smaller school does very well when taking on a bigger school, sometimes he does not.

I'm not saying this because he's the new head coach at ku, but for all that is good in the world, I would take any three of these coaches before Les Miles. The madhatter is cre cre.

One thing that's important at K-State (though I expect recruiting to improve with a new coach), is player development. Player development has been a cornerstone of Snyder's programs over the years.
