Here's @Adam Gorney BLURB from the bottom of his article about Jamel Johnson and his recruitment:
This is the only thing I can add so not really earth shattering but thought might as well start a thread to keep track of his recruitment. If he would have gave me more I would have written a story, but as long as things continue to go well I'm sure we will get a legit "article" worthy update the longer it drags out.
His head coach at Seguin is Joe Gordon who was a DB at K-State in the 90s. Johnson told me that him and Gordon don't really talk about K-State much at all. I have a feeling that could change though the further this goes. Or maybe Gordon doesn't want to affect the kid's decision. Will be kind of interesting to follow to see if that makes any differences or not.
Van Malone is recruiting him. Here's what he said about him when I asked what Malone like's about his game and why K-State likes him so much.
"He don’t really talk about my game. He's one that wants to know more about me and my family more then anything."
He appreciates that about Malone early in this process.
As for Baylor, it is Associate Head Coach (Outside Linebackers) Joey McGruire that recruits him. I asked what he likes about Baylor.
"They a family they going to compete."
I asked him: What are all the boxes you would like checked off when it comes to the program you will choose in the future?
Jameel Johnson: "Family and me starting as a true freshman."
Asked him to describe his game
Johnson: “I’m very physical and I’m fast.”
He also runs track by the way. That's all I got for now besides to confirm that K-State and Baylor are indeed recruiting him the hardest and making the best impression early on. I'll keep you updated if he adds anything else in our conversation that is still on going. Just isn't the most talkative guy, that is for sure.
