1. Skylar coming back is needed. Had a lot of hope with Will but he has regressed. Don’t know if it’s between Will’s ears, he doesn’t have the ability or coaching but to stand a chance next year we need Skylar. While I like Klein as a recruiter, just don’t know if he is a qb coach and I thought I’d never say that.
2. Both coordinators are over their heads at the FBS levels. I thought the jury was out on Klanderman, wasn’t sold ever, but tonight sold me on him not being ready. The 3rd quarter blitzing and getting burned the entire quarter when what you were doing was working in the first half and don’t get me started on not defending the middle of the field the entire year. Messingham - he doesn’t have a ton to work with but his play calling, particularly inside the 10 yd line has been inexcusable. If you are going to continually run the qb down their at least have a wildcat package as Will isn’t capable of running what you want.
3. Lack of accountability. I hated the former regime not allowing college kids to be kids but what I’ve seen the past 2 years is beyond ridiculous. If you are going to let kids play who make stupid penalties continue to play then this is what you get. That’s on the coaching staff. I get we don’t have a ton of options but you still have to have consequences.
4. Coaching between FCS to FBS. Starting to have my level of doubts with the coaching staff. Clock management, play calling and put your players in a position to be successful make a difference at FBS. At North Dakota St they could out athlete everyone. Klieman can still turn things around but he needs to look at his coaching staff pretty closely.
5. Tragic circumstance. Derrick Newton’s death is effecting the team more than anyone wants to admit. When situations like this occur either teams pull together or fall apart. The team has fallen apart with transfers and a lack of leadership - both players and coaches. The locker room feels divided and the pandemic has only made the situation worse along with the new transfer rules. Everyone on the team probably needs to participate in some grief counseling of some kind,
