This is from one of my favorite football bloggers/writers Bill Connelly. He has his own ratings system, called the S&P, based on what he calls the 5 factors or what he considers college football's most important stats. These are similar to the 4 factors Dean Oliver started and Ken Pomeroy uses for basketball. Through analysis of 1000s of games worth of stats they derived what percentage of winning and losing (generally) comes down to winning/losing in these stats categories. A lot of his stuff is on his website footballstudyhall.com.
