Make no mistake, Cinci is a very good basketball team.
But maybe not quite as scary as I first thought.
Cinci’s biggest win on the season is their 1 point over-time win against Iowa State in Ames on Dec. 1st.
Not exactly a good game for either team, both teams shot the ball poorly.
Iowa State was coming off a heart breaking 2-point loss to Gonzaga in Florida.
Iowa State was also still adjusting in November and early December … to life without Niang, Nader, & McKay.
Cinci’s second biggest victory this season was a 2-point win at home over SMU.
Cinci’s third biggest victory was a win at home over cross town rivals, Xavier. Granted Xavier had lost 3 of 4 games before playing Cinci. Later in the season, Xavier would experience a 6-game losing streak. In short, Xavier is a solid team, but maybe not Top 25 good.
Only 5 losses on the season = impressive.
Cinci lost to two good teams in the non-con; Rhode Island and Butler.
Cinci lost to SMU twice (last weekend in the AAC tourney final by 14 points).
And Cinci lost on the road against UCF, 49 to 53 (Feb 26).
The Bearcats have two leading scorers, but like K-State, their scoring is very balanced.
6’6” sophomore G/F – Jacob Evans 13.7 ppg
6’9” junior F – Kyle Washington 13.1
6’8” junior F – Gary Clark 10.7
6’4” senior G – Troy Caupain 10.1
Two more guards pitch in 8.0 ppg.
Two things that I find concerning about the match-up:
1) Which K-State team will show up ????????????
2) And too many talking heads are predicting a K-State upset (the kiss of death).
GO STATE !
