I've been lurking from time to time, and I must say the range of emotions and diversities of opinions I've found here have been award-qualifying. In short, you're well on your ways to another, typical Wabash year.
Good job!
I've gotta' say, however, that the departure of the bandwagon fans - both literally (as from the stadium) and figuratively - was both disappointing and expected. Coach has had his hands full this year with a strange mixture of immaturity, injuries and inexperience. That said, the closeness of some games, some impressive individual performances and - with the exception of OU - a general, deep-down grittiness have shown me that the program and its young men are okay even if the season leaves quite a bit to be desired.
So, can this group win two to qualify for a bowl? Well, KU is toast if our guys have their heads on straight Saturday. The Mountaineers? The Cats are going to need to consistently play a better caliber of football for four quarters to put the couch-burners down. Can they? Yep! Will they? I guess we'll all find out in real time.
Every season, we see the "Will Coach return?" and "Let's hire (Venables/Mangino)!" threads. Yes. Never. Never. Same answers every season.
Speaking of coaches, I was saddened but not surprised to see Paul Rhoads get summarily dismissed last Sunday. He's a good man with a strong moral fiber ... maybe not the best coach out there ... but a good fit at ISU and highly-respected up there. I wish him well.
May a few of you thrown Bruce Weber and his youngsters under the bus a bit too soon? We'll see what happens, but this team is showing some early promise and won't end up on the bottom of the heap as many around the Big XII (and on here) expected if these guys keep hustling and learning.
And, then, there's Coach MIttie and his warrior women. There's growing to do and recruiting still to be done, but it sure looks like the women are going to play some good basketball games this year.
Actually, each of our Wildcat teams are doing well ... and I'm especially proud of our young volleyball team and of the classy women of our equestrian squad who ride proudly and well toward the sunset of their sport at K-State.
Step back and take a look, folks. While quite a bit is happening in the Athletic Department, long-needed facilities improvements are underway all over campus. The 'rep' of K-State is steadily growing in academic circles. There's a lot to like and a lot to do other than watch ball games.
You need something to be proud of? Well, you have it ... K-State!
I hope you can appreciate the good things ... cherish your loved ones ... make K-State proud of you each and every day ... and have a very Happy Thanksgiving!
