K-State obvioulsy doesn't have a great team... but a lot of K-State's short comings has to do with poor play at QB (I mean it's been an absolute train wreck).

Joe Hubener's lack of success this season has nothing to do with Joe not working hard or giving it his all.
In fact, I appreciate that Joe is out there giving it his all. And to be honest, I thought Joe was starting to play a little better and had gained some confidence, but tonight's performance was terrible.

The simple truth, Joe is like 99.7% of us, he's not a D-1 Quarterback.

For heaven's sake, the CATS had a WR play QB in the second half and performed much much much better.

When you don't have a QB that can keep a defense half-way honest, you're in trouble. West Virginia did not try to hide the fact that they had 8 players in the box. I mean there was the four lineman and a second row of 4 players about 3 yards behind the lineman... all of them were thinking run first. WV was screaming, beat us with the pass if you can.

The fact of the matter, the Quarterback position is by far and away the most important single position on the field. A dynamic QB not only helps an offense go, but he is a leader for the entire team. Even the defense likes to know they have a QB on the team that can get it done.... never mind that a defense's best friend is a productive offense (especially an offense that chews up the clock).

I believe strongly if K-State would have had a good dual threat QB this season (not a great QB, just an above average QB) = K-State beats Okie State, TCU, TT, Texas ... and probably would have beaten Baylor (with the Bear's second team QB... probably not with Seth Russell).
In other words, K-State could have easily been 9 & 3, 10 & 2, or 11 & 1 had they benefited from good QB play (again, I'm not talking Mayfield or Boykin... I'm just talking about an above average dual threat QB = Jake Waters for example).

As for next year, I'm fired up about the defense that K-State has coming back (especially with Dante Barnett returning). Was Mike Moore a stud tonight or what ... wow he played lights out. Shelley continues to improve. We will miss Travis Britz, but Hood, Seiwert, .... etc should be able to step in.
We will miss Morgan Burn's special team play..ha.

The biggest concerns for the team going into next season:
#1) Quarterback
#2) O-tackles
#3) WR
#4) D-back opposite Shelley

K-State already has a juco O-tackle committed and one juco WR. I expect K-State to add another juco O-tackle and probably a juco D-back for good measure in this year's class. Plus K-State has a number of promising underclassmen.

I'm guessing Delton and Skylar Thompson will battle it out for the starting QB spot (perhaps Banks too).
Jesse Ertz could be back in the mix as well, but I have concern about Jesse staying healthy. Joe will be there too, but I just don't see Joe Hubener being the starting QB next season. In fact, I'm going to guess that Kody Cook gets a lot of work at QB during the extra practice time for bowl prep.

GO STATE !!
