Rather than the usual ranking of new coaches, which may imply unhappiness in Manhappiness if your #1 choice isn’t hired, I thought I would be different if we put potential coaches in “tiers” along with anticipated results. I’ll start!
TIER 1: These would be coaches who would have (IMO) the best chance of immediate success and excitement. If any of these guys got the job I would immediately buy season tickets, along with the required donation and park my ass in the stadium on opening day. I would be wildly optimistic. These guys would each have a pretty long leash and would have to fail before changing my opinion of them (don’t have to be extremely realistic, just a wish list)
Brent Venables
Mike Leach
Bob Stoops
Urban Meyer
TIER 2: These coaches would garner considerable excitement and would likely succeed here. I would be pretty optimistic. I would prolly not jump on season tickets but I would sure spend money on the secondary market whenever I could and try to make as many games as possible with the intention of buying season tickets very soon if they prove to be worthy. They would have a moderately long leash and be given a fair chance. EVERYONE in the Tier 1 list would have to say no 1st:
Seth Litrell
Gary Patterson
TIER 3: I would be cautiously optimistic. I would likely try to attend a few games and would be glued to the TV for the rest of them. Would hope to become excited enough to buy season tickets in the near future. These guys would have to prove themselves before I get too excited, but I would be willing to give them a shot if all of the above coaches said no. These guys would have a fairly short leash and Gene would be held accountable but likely given a 2nd chance if we’re looking for a new coach in the next 3-5 years:
Jim Levitt
Ken N (Navy’scoach. I’m sick of trying to spell his name!)
TIER 4: Not very optimistic or excited. We just keep being K-State. These guys, and Gene would have a VERY SHORT leash! Kind of like the hiring of Bruce Weber. We might get lucky but the odds are against us. I might try to watch parts of games on TV when I’m not busy doing anything else (kind of like now). Would be very pleasantly surprised if they succeed. We’re prolly going to be looking up at every other B12 team, including KU, and I refuse to spend a lot of time and money unless they PROVE to be successful. Virtually no optimism or excitement for me:
Chris Klieman
Matt Wells
TIER 5: FVCK!!! We prolly should consider our place in the Mountain West Conference right now! Why can’t we EVER have nice things??? Time to find a new team to root for because Im done with this shit show. No leash! Not even a collar to attach one to:
Anyone currently on our staff not named Sean.
TIER 6: Time to give up football and just go with basketball. Welcome back to the 70’s and early 80’s. We have officially come full circle. It was fun while it lasted:
Sean Snyder
