So, I'm reading Fitz's article and wondering... in regards to conference expansion, why do academics really matter? I get that this is college athletics but we all know this is really about TV sets and money. I may be wrong but are there incentives to having a conference that ranks highly academically, I don't believe there are? Would the Big12 handcuff themselves by not simply taking the best TV markets that fit in geographically/athletically to get to the number that they feel makes the most sense whether it be 12, 14, 16? So in our case, if we go to 12, does Cincy and Memphis make the most sense? To 14, Cincy, Memphis, UConn and Temple? To 16, Cincy, Memphis, UConn, Temple, CSU, and Tulane?

I know many will refute the schools here... I'm more curious on why the academics matter?
