I just watched his game against Trinity Valley in the Juco Tourney in Hutch. His team won handily despite being tied early in the 2nd half. Ervin was a complete mixed-bag in this game. He showed us pretty much everything...terrible play, smart play, out of control, completely composed, aggressive, very good play...everything.
His first half was TERRIBLE. He forced things early on and had some turnovers and picked up 2 quick fouls. He played less than 10 minutes and then hit the bench with his second foul with 0 points. He was extremely unimpressive in the first half. Like why did we sign this guy bad.
The second half was the opposite. He completely controlled the game and made plays. He scored 23 points in the second half alone. He ran the floor, directed traffic, penetrated and dished for some great assists, and finished strong at the hole. He did still force things a few times, but was much better than the first half.
My observations: really good penetrator, team leader, decent handles, excellent finisher at the rim. Unfortunately, we never saw him shoot hardly at all from the outside or anything other than attacking the basket. He did hit a 3 at the end of the game. I'm not sure or confident in his outside shot, but I am with his finishing. He also makes some really questionable, over-aggressive plays at times, while completely in control others.
I thought he was inconsistent as a whole. He is certainly promising and can make plays, which we lack. He also was inconsistent, which is not exactly what this team needs. We need someone to lean on. I'm also not confident that he will be able to make shots, which we also need. He will add a dimension of finishing in traffic, which we are desperate for.
Again, this is just one game, and my extremely unprofessional opinion.
