The post about the new volleyball facility got me to thinking about Ahearn. I went to games there from 65-68. It was pretty impressive to a young farm boy, my dad always said “you could put a lot of hay in here. I loved evey part of it even the dirt floor, blue gray cigarette smoke haze in the rafters and basic information scoreboard. The older men wearing suits and ties and sunlight through the windows during day games and of course the EMAW sign. I guess earthy and basic would describe the experience. Today’s arenas are fan oriented and wonders of technology. I enjoy going but the experience is sterile in comparison.
