TOTAL DEFENSE
Through 3 games the defense has given up 840 yards, 676 through the air and 164 on the ground. Through the air the opposing QBs are 67/99 or 67% and are averaging 9.7 yards per pass and 225.3 passing yards per game. On the ground opposing teams have rushed for 164 yards on 62 carries for an average of 2.64 yards per carry. The defense in general is allowing 4.6 yards per play and 280 yards per game. They are also giving up 13.6 points per game (it would be higher but i don’t count the pick 6 in to defensive stats). The defense on the year has gotten 12 sacks and forced 7 turnovers an average of 2.33 turnovers per game and 4 sacks per game. Opponents are 16/43 on 3rd down or 37% and 5/8 on 4th down 62% granted most of them have been 4th and short but you still gotta get off the field at a better clip than that. They have also forced 12 punts per game and 4 punts per game.

TACKLES AND ASSISTS LEADERS
Green leads the team with 17 solo tackles and 5 assists for a total of 22. Next up is Fletcher 10 solo and 6 assists for a total of 16. Brents has recorded 11 tackles and 1 assisted for 12 tackles. I have all the tackles and assisted ones recorded if you guys would like to know the whole teams tackles i will do that.

REDZONE DEFENSE
Opponents in the red zone are 7/7 with 3 rushing touchdowns and 2 passing touchdowns and 2 field goals. Opponents are averaging 2.3 redzone opportunites per game.

TACKLES FOR LOSS AND SACKS
Green and Matlack both have 1 TFL and 1 sack. JMac leads the team with 3.5 TFL he also has 1 sack on the year. Anudike leads the team in sacks with 3 and 3 TFL. Duke is second on the team with 2 sacks he also has 2 TFL. Fletcher has 2.5 TFL and 1 sack to go along with it. Henington and Yeast have 0.5 TFL. Trussell has 2 TFL and 1 sack. Denson has 1 TFL. Massie has 1.5 TFL. Stubbie has 1 TFL and 1 sack. Huggins has 1.5 TFL and 1 sack.

INTERCEPTIONS AND FF
Smith, Yeast, Denson, Pickle are all tied with one interception each. Anudike leads the team in forced fumbles with two and JMac with 1.

Special Teams
Through 3 games the special teams specifically the return game has been very quiet. In KRs Brooks has 1 for 31 yards and Knowles has 1 for 17 yards. In PRs Brooks has 2 for 9 yards, 4.5 per return. Winkel is 3/4 or 75% with a long of 40 yards. Zenter has 8 punts for 316 yards an average of 39.5 yards per punt.

MY THOUGHTS
The defense has been outstanding in some categories but if they wanna keep this win streak going opponents can’t go 8/17 on 3rd down like Nevada did. The red zone defense needs to force more turnovers or at the least more field goals. The defense also needs to force more incomplete passes opponents are completing nearly 7/10 passes i personally would like to see the opponent completion percentage go down towards 60-63%. The offense is great at run blocking we know that and we also know you might not win many big 12 games completing 7 passes (Spencer Sanders should relate) they need to complete passes to build confidence and need to take deep shots to keep the defense honest to avoid 8 men in the box if they put 8 men in the box i would take my chances with a deep play to Knowles or the speed of Brooks if he has a step.
