I believe making Andrea Coleman the O-coordinator was the right move. No doubt that Charlie Dickey was deserving, but Charlie is one heck of an O-line coach and I don’t want to remove him from what he does well. The run game goes hand-in-hand with blocking schemes, so Charlie will continue to work with the O-line. If Charlie was the O-coordinator, he would likely spend less time with the O-line.
Like Matt noted, Charlie likely got a raise, which is never a bad thing.

Collin Klein resonates with fans because, well he’s Collin Klein, who was one win short of playing for a National Title (and had K-State played for a NC, Collin would have won the Heisman as well).

I’m not saying Collin is not capable of being the O-coordinator, I just believe Andrea is better equipped. Andrea has more experience. He spent 5 years in the NFL and he coached before coming to K-State (not at the D-1 level, but still had some coaching experience before returning to K-State).

Now I don’t know if it was really true or just a good story that someone posted (3 years ago following the TCU game). Supposedly the poster had received some inside info sometime after the game.

K-State had jumped on #2 TCU in Manhattan. K-State had a big half-time lead (35 to 17) but Bazooka Joe threw a critical INT for a TD to open up the second half… etc. TCU came storming back in the second half and took a 3 point lead.

With less than 2 minutes to play, K-State had a 4th and 1. The ball was on TCU’s 20 yard-line. Yes, a FG would tie the game, but you also had to like K-State’s chances to pick up 1 yard. It was obvious that K-State was going to have a hard time stopping TCU If the Frogs got the ball back.

The story goes that Andrea was pleading to go for it on 4th & 1. If K-State gets the first down, they could keep marching, chew up the clock and potentially score the game winning TD …or at worst, chew up the clock and kick a game tying field goal and leave TCU no time = force over-time.

The story goes that Andrea was pleading to go for it on 4th & 1. Snyder asked Dimel if he had a play and it was crickets. In short, Dimel did not have the sack to go for it under those circumstances.

In normal circumstance, most every coach is going to kick the game tying FG, but K-State was not as good as TCU at the time (again, TCU was ranked #2). There was no confidence that K-State’s defense was going to stop TCU (the Frogs had already scored 28 points in the 2nd half), but I did have confidence that K-State could pick up 1 yard (K-State had rushed for over 200 yards in the game).

K-State kicks the game tying FG. TCU gets the ball back, two plays later = TD TCU. After Boykin picked up nearly 10 yards on 1st Down, Boykin hits Doctson on a deep pass for 55 yards = game over.

K-State and Bazooka Joe got the ball back with over a minute to play. 1st Down = incomplete pass + 2nd play = Bazooka Joe fumbles.

Sorry for the long story, but if true, gotta love that Andre has a good feel for the game. I believe if K-State gets the first down… the CATS march the ball in for a TD and win the game. K-State’s drive had started at their own 25 yard-line and in 8 plays, the CATS were at TCU’s 20 yard line (the TCU defense was gassed).

Again, maybe just a good story.
I know one thing for sure, I was yelling for K-State to go for the first down.... you just knew that TCU would get the ball back with plenty of time to score, it took the Frogs 2 plays and 37 seconds.
