Gonzaga vs. Kansas State final score: Wildcats upset No. 21 Zags, 72-62

USA TODAY Sports

The Kansas State Wildcats offered a rude welcome for the No. 21 Gonzaga Bulldogs Saturday, springing an efficient 72-62 upset at the Intrust Bank Arena in Wichita.

Gonzaga forward Sam Dower didn't play the second half after suffering a bruised hip, allowing Kansas State to pound the block and secure the victory. Wildcat forward Thomas Gipson had 12 of his 14 points in the second half to give Kansas State a win in its first game against a ranked opponent this season.

The Bulldogs led only briefly in the first half after a Sam Dower dunk gave Gonzaga a 14-13 lead. But Nino Williams' jumper on the ensuing possession gave Kansas State a lead it wouldn't relinquish. Gonzaga could not get star guard Kevin Pangos going down the stretch, as the sharpshooter scored just 12 points on 4-11 shooting. Gipson's final field goal was a put-back that gave the Wildcats an eight-point lead with 1:48 remaining, sealing the victory. The Wildcats had a stellar 15:4 assist/turnover ratio in the game while causing Gonzaga to stumble into 12 turnovers of their own.

Kansas State has now won six straight games after stumbling early in the season against Northern Colorado, Charlotte and Georgetown. Gonzaga suffers their second loss of the season, having lost to Dayton in the Maui Invitational.
