Tonight in my son's little league game, we were faced with a scenario I have never seen before. The other team was batting, and had runners at second and third, one out. The pitcher threw strike 2, and our catcher caught it on a short hop. The batter ran to first thinking it was third strike and dropped third strike, which it was neither. Our catcher threw the ball to first, and when that happened the runner on third ran home and scored. The umpire made no call, the run stood, and batter returned. We questioned the call, we didn't know the rule, and not sure the umpire did either. Anyone know if that was the proper ruling? I thought maybe it should be a dead ball when batter leaves the box like that.
