It appears Kansas State's staff is wasting no time with bringing in visitors following the official news of three departures to the program on Tuesday night...
I have confirmed that Connors State (OK) point guard Corlbe Ervin will be in Manhattan for an official visit this weekend.
A native of the Oklahoma City area, Ervin is a 6-foot-3 true point guard that averaged 15.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 8.3 assists in 32 games this season. He's got a nice, strong frame, attacks the basketball well, and can distribute. However, Ervin doesn't shoot the ball particularly well - he shot 53.4 percent from the floor, but just 29.5 from long range and 67.2 at the free throw line.
With the K-State staff in attendance, Ervin had games of 23 points-9 rebounds-5 assists and 16-5-9 at the national junior college tournament in Hutch. I'm not entirely sure of his offer list at this point.
At this point, K-State has six departures (Nino Williams, Thomas Gipson, Jack Karapetyan, Marcus Foster, Jevon Thomas and Tre Harris) at this time, with three signees (Dean Wade, Barry Brown and Dante Williams) and two commitments (Kamau Stokes and Eric Cobb) .
With Stokes expected to sign next month and the status of Cobb virtually unknown, like it has been all along, there is obviously room for Ervin if he pulls the trigger. There are currently three open scholarships, and two when Stokes signs.
The junior college route looks to be inevitable at this point. K-State could test the transfer market, but with so many departures and serious dip in production in certain areas, and the unknown recovery status of a couple of guys with injuries (DJ Johnson's foot and Malek Harris' shoulder), there appears to be an emphasis on getting immediate help. Some experience and not so many freshmen would be good, too.
