Shortly after the Big 12 formed a very close friend and I drove down to a Baylor/Cats game. He picked up seats from an insider and I found myself sitting by a late middle aged Hispanic man who just happened to be on their Board of Regents. Great guy, Baptist minster, long time Baylor fan...... We discussed the grass parking lot, the old stadium, etc. as well as how large a church congregation should be and how important it was for a school and its fans and players to represent its core values in every way. I got the inside scoop on how the Big 12 ended up with Baylor in the conference. When I asked about the impact of being in the Big 12, he pointed to new construction on the south side of the stadium and remarked that the previous year's TV revenue more than paid for that, something a smaller Christian school couldn't have possibly done. Oh how I would like to sit by him for the same conversation now as we both might feel that they have sold their soul to the devil. Or would he say that winning is fun?
