I was just looking around at some of the Big XII bball teams this year and thought I'd put together a recap of the early season. Also hoping to get everyone's take on how the season will play out now that we've all got a few games under our belts. I know early season woes can be misleading but its still fun.
K-State (5-1) - Decent win over Columbia, dominant win against P5 school Mizz and played tough against UNC. Easy wins against UMES, SD and a tough win against SC St. First true road test coming up tomorrow against UGA (who has struggled). Notable stat is 36th in points allowed. The rest is over 100th.
Okie Lite (5-2) - Has played only one team of note (Tulsa) and lost to them. They've beat LBSU twice and have a loss to Gearge Mason by 3. The rest are wins vs Towson, UTM and Arkansas Pine Bluff. They are averaging 76 pts a game and allowing 67 points. The best team stat is points allowed at 77th place and the rest are all over 100th place (assists are 202nd w/13.1).
WVU (6-0) #20 - Has played nobody of note but have put up a few big scoring nights of 100+. Richmond seems to be the best win at 67-59. Still pretty untested overall but will see something when they play #10 UVA on the 8th. 10th in pts per game, 9th in points allowed, 33rd in assists, and 26th in Rebounds. Again this is against nobody good.
TCU (3-3) - They have played one team of note and lost it close 75-70 vs SMU. Also lost to also rans of SDSU and URI. Other wins are SELA, HBU and Ill St. Seems to have some fight but also sems to still be TCU. All stats over 100th.
UTerus (3-3) - Played 3 P5 teams and have played Washinton twice. They split with Washinton and lost to Michigan and aTm. They beat their two flufs AMCC and UTA but only by 11 and 7 pts (in overtime). Looks like some early season stuggles for the new coach, but I'm sure he'll get them righted by the time conference play comes around. No team stat under 100th.
TTU (5-1) - Lost to the ranked Utah, but have beat two P5 teams in Miss St (by 2) and Minn (by 13). They've taken care of the rest in HP, Haw, and SHSU. No team stat under 100th.
ISU (6-0) #5 - Hasn't played a ranked team yet but beat CU (by 6), VT (by 22), and Ill (by 11) Haven't had any big tests yet but will paly Cinn who is 17th on the 22nd. Currently in the top 25 in both points and assists per game and is tied for 52nd with rebounds and 83rd in pts allowed. Look to be solid offensively again.
Baylor (5-1) #25 - Lost to the one team they played that was P5 and ranked in Oregon by 7. Took care of the rest easily but plays vandy on the 6th and aTm on the 19th. Should know more after that. Currently 3rd in assists, 16th in points allowed, 26th in points per game and 46th in rebounds. Rico Gathers appears to be tearing it up.
Okie (4-0) #6 - Beat Wisconsin and Memphis who usually are tournament teams. Other two were wins against fluff schools. Hield will be a force again averaging 22 pts a game so far. They are currently 4th in rebounding and 21st in pts allowed.
Flaw on the Kaw (5-1) #4 - Lossed by 6 to a very good Mich St team, has scored 100+ twice and beat a ranked vandy and P5 UCLA. 3rd in pts per game 10th in assists and points allowed is 132nd. Appear to be solid again and now have Diallo back as well. I hope they all get Mono during conference play and lose all of their games.
Thoughts.
