Recruiting, Recruiting, Recruiting. Oh. Did I say Recruiting? Look, I know that KSU will never get the consistent talent that Bama, UGA, or UT will get year after year, but KSU is still able to get high caliber recruits to come to KSU. Arthur Brown, Chris Harper, Skylar Thompson, Josh Buhl, Ell Roberson, Bishop, Kelly, McDonald, etc. It has happened before, & it can happen again. We all remember/know the story of the recruitment of Jeff Kelly. Does anyone think that Snyder would let that happen again? I certainly don't. There's nothing in recent history to say that it would.
Look, let’s be honest. The main two reasons that it’s not happening now, is because 1. Snyder doesn’t let his coaches recruit non stop like other programs. 2. Every program in the country is using Bill’s age against KSU & the fact that Bill won’t accept a succession plan (whether it’s for Sean, Colling or anyone) is hurting recruiting immensely.
I’m happy for the kids that have committed & signed to play for KSU. But let’s be honest, there weren’t a whole lot of FBS options for many of the recruits, so of course they signed with KSU.
The recruitment of Vasher (signed with Ole Miss) is a perfect example of what is wrong with this staff. Ole Miss is now on PROBATION & won’t be eligible for a bowl game until his senior year. KSU is coming off of another bowl win, loses both starting LB’ers, yet he still signed with Ole Miss instead of KSU. This should almost be a fireable offense in my opinion. There is no way that KSU should’ve lost this recruit to a school that is on probation.
Let’s look at the facilities & how they should be used for recruiting now. KSU was able to get the Texas 5A Defensive POY (Buhl), Greater Houston area Offensive POY (Roberson), 2X JUCO POY (Bishop), etc when they had a very mediocre training facility, coaching facility & playing facility. You could even say that they were just flat out POOR!! Yet KSU spent literally a QUARTER OF A BILLION dollars on facilities a few years ago. The coaches should be recruiting at a much higher level than they are, just by using the facilities as a tool, yet they’re not.
Here’s the main problem. What happens when Bill retires? Everyone has always said that “Bill is able to do More with Less” & that’s true. But what happens when Bill retires? Do you think that the next coach (whomever it is) will be able to get the same results that Bill has?
Quite honestly, this is why I’m excited & also worried about Bill retiring. I’m excited because I’m hoping that KSU goes after a coach that is exciting & puts an emphasis on recruiting – Leavitt, Matt Campbell, etc. I’m worried, because if it’s not for another 2 – 3 years, then the $250 million that KSU put in its facilities will already be outdated & KSU would’ve received nothing for on the field results & recruiting because of the facilities. I’m just worried as hell that KSU will not take advantage of the facilities at all.
