I made the stop at Blue Valley at Miege last night. It was my second time seeing Blue Valley this year. Unfortunately for them, I seem to be their bad luck charm because those are their only two losses of the year.
BLUE VALLEY
Iowa lineman commit Mason Richman: He was a bit quieter tonight than I had see him in the past. Mason has great size and length and will fit in well at Iowa. Even if he doesn't grow into the frame like I think and has to play tight end, Iowa City will be a good spot for him. What he is right now is a pass rusher because he is more athletic than the offensive lineman he sees, and he is just great at blocking quicks because of his get-off and his length.
2021 ATH Dorian Stephens: He caught an impressive touchdown on the first drive of the game with Kansas State coaches looking on. Stephens is an impressive athlete. I think he could play WR at the P5 level, and he showed it on that drive. But they think his highest ceiling is as a defensive player.
2021 DT Sterling Smithson: Smithson is a huge dude. He's a massive prospect with a ton of strength. If he was a bit more mobile and a better athlete, he'd be a prime prospect.
2021 QB Jake Wolff: He's got a live arm, and a strong arm. He's just not a great decision-maker yet. I still don't see him as an FBS quarterback but I do think he is a college quarterback.
2022 WR Sterling Lockett: He's from the Lockett family that you all love. Only a sophomore but he's someone to monitor. He flashed a little speed tonight. Sterling is pretty small, though.
BISHOP MIEGE
Harvard OT commit Brian Burns: Kansas State is interested. It'll be interesting to see what they do. He has more length about him than I originally expected and he moves well. He just doesn't play as physical or as nasty as I prefer.
Minnesota WR commit Daniel Jackson: I've had many tell me that he isn't the same player since he suffered that bad knee injury a little over a year ago. I think he might have lost a tick of speed/explosion but he's still a well-rounded WR that is polished, runs good routes and has a playmaker gene. I still really like him, but probably not as much as I did. At one point, I thought he was easily the 2nd best player in the 2020 class in the state of Kansas. He's probably not that anymore but he might still be top 5.
RB Brison Cobbins: A tough runner that will play college football. It just won't be as the highest levels because he is limited in terms of size and speed.
LB Tyquez Agnew-Whitten: He's a great athlete but is just under-sized. He'd be a P5 player if it wasn't for that. I bet he ends up being a great football player at whatever level he chooses to go.
2021 WR Phillippe Wesley: I'll be honest. I don't like him as much as other people. He has power five offers, though. He has good size and is a D1 athlete but he doesn't move as well as what I would like.
ADDITIONAL NOTES
Chris Klieman and Jason Ray were there. Head coaches for both teams made sure to come over and say hi before the game. It especially seemed like there is a strong rapport between Klieman and Bishop Miege HC Jon Holmes.
Taylor Poitier walked up too. He is a physical specimen right now. It was funny that Holmes walked over and said hi again to Klieman at halftime and then saw Poitier and asked if he wanted to suit up again for Miege.
