We assassinated a military leader of a foreign nation.

We did so on another nation's soil without their approval.

Iran has predictably reacted in a way that indicates harsh reprisals for the US.

Our allies are pushing for Trump to back off ("ratchet down the escalation" in diplomatic parlance)

The person we assassinated has already been replaced.

Iraq, the nation we have spent over $1T in funding on and killed thousands of Americans and hundreds of thousands of civilians securing, is moving towards pushing out US servicemen and presence.

Iraq is also moving towards aligning more closely with Iran, arguably a worse outcome for the US than having left Saddam in place.

Iraq and Iran are treating the death of Soleimani as a tragedy and making him a martyr, firing up the population and likely increasing the likelihood of harm coming to Americans worldwide.

Our President then follows up Irans threat of retaliation by saying Trump will commit war crimes if Iran reacts.

Iran is withdrawing itself from the nuclear deal meaning it will be under no obligation to not relaunch its nuclear program, making a step closer to possessing a nuclear bomb.

Tell me again how this was such a good decision for the US, and we don't come off worse because of it?
