The idea of splitting California into 2 states has been tossed around for decades. Most of the articles I read were a North (San Francisco/Sacramento) and South (LA/San Diego) split. This 2017 discussion is West/Liberal and East/Conservative split. The Trump uprising has made us as a society look at rural areas with a different viewpoint.
This is just one more step in that progression of nanny state versus rugged individualism.
