You've all seen me sharing this family's incredible story, so I wanted to briefly share why you have seen our wide-spread messages in your feeds.
In 2014, one of my best friend's was blessed with a beautiful niece, Florence Gray Tetuan (we refer to her as our Ladybug). Shortly after birth Florence was diagnosed with an extremely rare disease called Ohtahara Syndrome (less than 200 cases documented worldwide), which is characterized by epileptic seizures. Initially the doctors gave her the initial prognosis of 1 year, which leads me to reason #1:
1) Florence Fights - Florence has blown by the doctors prognosis of 1 year and is still here with us today. We'll kindly say she's the "Ultimate Badass."
We thank God everyday for her presence, although she is unable to maintain even a remotely normal life, which as you can imagine, has created some difficult circumstances her parents. Jesse Tetuan works full-time & Christina Cipolla Tetuan(who used to uphold a career at Hallmark) takes on the responsibility of Florence's full-time caretaker - Reason #2
2) Your Ongoing Support Makes a Difference - The Tetuan's have endless medical expenses, therapy sessions, travel expenses to see specialized doctors in Philadelphia & St. Louis, and are constantly in pursuit of ways to improve her life. Your "shares", "likes" and generous donations have created this opportunity for Florence to make progress in her battle!
For this reason, a number of individuals have come together to spread her story, as well as the some 7,000+ other rare diseases that are overlooked year after year, to incorporate fun, community, and awareness into fundraising efforts - Reason #3
3) We Don't Dwell, We Celebrate Life & Have Fun - This year marks the 3rd Annual Volley4Florence Volleyball Tournament Fundraiser/Silent Auction. Last year we raised almost $25k, doubling our efforts for year one. This year we're partnering with The Lee Ann Britain Infant Development Center & Millbrooke Elementary to spread the word and we want YOU to join the fun!
