I was pulling for Texas Tech to knock off South Florida and it looked like maybe the Red Raiders were going to get it done, but South Florida with less than a minute to play, got in FG range (to tie the game), but before kicking a potential game tying field goal, the Bull's QB, Flowers, saw a wide open receiver and threw a nice pass for a TD. As frustrated as I get sometimes with K-State's pass defense, Tech gave up 2 late touchdowns to wide open WRs... it was bad.
Speaking of South Florida and Charlie
I got looking at South Florida and Charlie walked into a pretty good situation.
The Bull finished 11 & 2 the year before Charlie arrived. South Florida finished their 11 & 2 season with an over-time win over South Carolina in their bowl game.
South Florida brought back most of their starting players from 2016, including their star QB, Quinton Flowers.
This season, the Bulls had 5 senior starters on offense: 1= QB, 2 = O-lineman, 1 = WR, 1 = RB (actually their top 2 RBs).
And the Bulls had 6 senior starters on defense: 3 = D-lineman, 1 = LB, 2 - DBs (which included their top 3 tacklers this season).
I guess to Charlie's credit, he didn't mess things up.
Though in 2016, South Florida beat UCF by 17 points.
This year (2017) UCF got the best of South Florida.
It will be interesting to watch how Charlie does going forward. The good news for Charlie, he has a large local talent pool to recruit from.
Speaking of Scott Frost. If I were a Corn fan, I would be very excited about Scott Frost.
Did you know that the year before Scott Frost took over UCF, the Black Knights went 0 & 12.
First year under Frost = 6 & 7 (lost bowl game)
Second year under Frost = 12 & 0 (will face Auburn on New Year's Day).
GO STATE !
