So we already know conservatives are extremely skeptical of science - and by skeptical I mean ignorant of. But to date, it's usually around the hard sciences, like physical and biological sciences. They also frequently struggle with human history, so I imagine it was just a matter of time before the two would merge.
Ben Carson has said that Joseph from the Bible built the pyramids and he did so because they are a granary, not pharaoh tombs. This of course goes against evidence and what archaeologists have believed for hundreds of years, but he dismisses their position by saying many archaeologists believe that aliens provided us with the knowledge to build the pyramids. That's scoffable, but not for the reason rational people think. It's scoffable because according to Carson, aliens aren't needed because God helped (I guess give Joseph the blueprints?).
This is the serious, smart candidate?
