2022 wing CJ Gunn is set to announce his commitment on Feb. 7.
CJ has grown into wing prospect. Over a year ago when kstate first got on him it seemed like he could be a big PG, he has good perimeter skills but just not really a PG and more of a slashing scoring wing.
Because of this I don’t see K-State landing him, mainly because they just got Maximus at the wing spot in 2021 and he’s fits the roster better as a bigger, stronger, more ready to play recruit.
Indiana has made a strong push the last month so I’d guess that is where he chooses. That offer really hits home with him and his family as the local offer.
K-State really wants to add a PG in 2022. Going to be the number one priority. The 3 that are offered to keep a close eye on are Tayshawn Comer, Paul McMillan, and Sean Jones.
Comer has had a very quiet recruitment, but the Cats liked what they saw and they’ve been growing more and more present in the Indianapolis area.
McMillan and Jones have many options.
Jones has a Xavier futurecast made by Rivals national analyst Russ Wood about a month ago. Not sure if that’s still a sure thing but I’ve checked with Russ, just waiting to hear back.
McMillan has a Cincy futurecast made by Tyler Graff in August. But I confirmed with Tyler that, that is old info and he’s unsure where he’s going to go now.
Still too early for me to have a good guess where these guys end up but I’ll start talking with them more and more
One still awaiting an offer is Jaquan Sanders of Our Saviour Lutheran currently playing in the Grind Session with new Cat Max Edwards.
Shane Southwell has a great relationship with Sanders and his family as he won a NY state championship with Jaquan’s older brother.
I’d be surprised if a K-State offer doesn’t come before the spring/summer. He’s got a lot of options to choose from.
After those PGs there’s plenty of other good guard/wing prospects the Wildcats are after in 2022, but wing isn’t as much of a priority now. There is a few big men in the class to chase too.
Right now there is only one open schollie for class of 2022 but don’t be surprised if that opens up to 2 or 3 eventually.
As for 2021...
They’re filled up currently in the class of 2021. I have no inside info of whether or not they are going to continue trying to add in this class but I don’t think it would be a bad idea for them to go after a twitchy guard whether transfer or high school recruit, but preferably an instant impact guy.
I think the staff sees Maximus as someone who can really come in and have an impact right away so they may be done considering another wing for this class, but I still don’t think adding Wesley Cardet would be a bad idea if they are able to do it.
Again I’m a little unsure what they want to do in 2021. There’s not any scholarships currently open, so if they do add someone it means someone on the current roster will be departing after the season.
This is all I have for now.
