Since they posted it on Facebook, I hope Cody's folks don't mind me sharing their post here about his progress. As most of you know, Cody was severely injured in a pedi-cab accident after K-State's bowl game in Arizona three years ago. Here is the update posted today. One of the many reasons I hug my boys whenever I see them and tell them I love them before I end a phone call.
We haven't updated on Cody's progress for quite sometime. We are proud to say that Cody continues to progress and I believe everyone's focus is on Cody's return to independence. It has been a long three years and we have learned to live day by day. Cody currently attends school m-f from 10-3 with his teacher Shauna Young. Shauna utilizes a teaching program from the Aphasia Center where Cody attended school back in July. Cody has shown significant improvement with daily vocal skills, reading, writing and spelling. Cody continues to workout three-four days per week with Matt Edwards /Stormy at Club One fitness. They continue to work on balance, core strength and cardio. Cody very rarely wants to skip this part of his weekly routine. Cody continues to learn his ADL's from home. The ADL routine consists of waking himself (sometimes you have to use a prod) by the alarm on his phone. From that point he proceeds to the bathroom inserts contacts, showers, shaves, brushes teeth and then returns to his room to get dressed for the day. Not everyday runs as smooth as it is written, hell whose has a perfect day everyday. We continue to teach Cody how to sort, wash, dry and put away clothes. He is getting close to mastering loading and unloading the dishwasher. Cody likes to help with cooking meals and generally helps clean the table after we eat. Cody also enjoys working for Magna Dry and interacting with customers. Like I said earlier really pushing for his independence. Cody is fortunate to have some close friends/family to help keep him in the social network. It's pretty awesome watching Cody interact with his Old/new friends. The house is filled with laughter when he arrives home from being out with his buddies. Big thanks to Mike, Johnny, JC and Howard for being there!!!
As we enter into the new year we are thankful for the blessings that God has granted Cody on this journey. We are thankful for friends and family that continue to support our mental well being thru this crazy life. God bless everyone and we will keep pushn, pulln and prayn.
