I am just speculating, projecting, playing the what if game here, so keep that in mind. There are no guarantees on anyone's success until they prove to be able to sustain it and I realize that. Just wanted to entertain thoughts on what the future might hold.

With the impressive performance in the bowl game, his ability to connect with players and recruits, and with what is looking to be like a killer offensive class he is helping to land ... what does the future look like?

Think he should have a 8 or 9 win season this year. Probably take a step back the next year as we see more of youth movement. If he keeps landing high level talent, it is going to get interesting in a few years when those kids hit the field and start finding their way. Probably three or four years out, but double digit wins are back on the table if Collin can consistently deliver with his offense. If the offense is a big part of that he is going to have schools knocking on his door. Pay raise and associate head coach is going to be the minimum to retain him if he is viewed as a hot commodity.

Kleiman is 54. Assuming good health, would not think he would even consider retirement before 65? So with sustained success and visibility we are likely going to have to weather several runs at Collin. We can make if 5-7 years but dont think we could hang onto him for 10-12. I think he would still be early forties by then. I believe Bill Snyder was late forties when he got his shot. He essentially had to prove himself at a trainwreck of a D1 school in kstate and thus was able to skip the "prove it at small school first".
Collins seems like the type that is going to be methodical in absorbing what this program and learning how it is being done. Kleiman couldnt be a better program/hc mentor in my opinion. Would Collin be content in riding out 10-12 years with visibility as a high impact coordinator, possibly getting the HCIW tag if he were to really prove himself to be ready? I know, those situations dont work out very often. It just seems like this program is almost being built into a system of sorts, which could translate to a successful hand off to a diligent student. It is not like he is trying to replace a charismatic HC that wows his team to success. Kleiman just solves problems and puts in the work. Collin is the type to do the same.

Does he NEED to go out on his own as a HC?

Do you think he could be content for a long time as a coordinator like Venables in order to step in at his preferred option when the time comes?

He would still only be around 45 in 12 years. He could drive the program for 20-25 years if he panned out as a HC and was able to sustain success and get the right guys around him.
