Okay, the Hip Hop thread got me going. Let’s take it 180 degrees. Name your top 5 country songs. No rules about time or style, but if you name a Luke Bryan song, expect to be respected less.
Here goes...
1. He Stopped Loving Her Today - George Jones. Country at it's finest. Unrequited love, brutal twist, death. It had it all
2. Friends in Low Places - Garth Brooks. Great story, catchy as hell, perfect for drunk karaoke
3. Highway 20 Ride - Zac Brown Band. Cuts to the bone. Meaningful story by a great songwriter. Not likely to be on many other lists, but it hits the feels
4. The Gambler - Kenny Rogers. I mean...
5. Take Me Home, Country Road - John Denver. I wish WVU didn't steal it, but mostly I'm just bitter he didn't mention the Konza Prairie so we could sing it at the Bill
Some honorable mentions from recent time include "Love Triangle" from RaeLynn and "She Got the Best of Me" by Luke Combs. Older ones that deserved more of a look are "Amarillo By Morning", "Blue Eyes Cryin' in the Rain" and "Jolene"
