I feel very good about K-State's D-backfield.
The obvious boost of having All Big 12 candidate, Dante Barnett, return, is a huge lift.

Sean Newlan and Kendall Adams will battle it out for the other starting safety position (two very capable players).

Duke Shelley should only build on being thrown in the fire as a true freshman, I believe Duke is going to be a stud this year.

Donnie Starks has the capability of playing very solid as the nickle back.

That leaves one open position (well, two for the dime package).

Cre Moore started to receive playing time before his "off the field" issue... I believe Cre is a viable option.

Nate Guidry and the Mack(s) will also be in the mix.
New juco transfer Jordon Noil will compete as well.
As will others....

But the 5th starter could very well show up this summer.

The CAL transfer, Cedric Dozier. After a promising sophomore year, Cedric did not play much as a junior (if someone can expound on this, please do).
Fact of the matter, K-State is getting an experienced d-back that has played at high level in the PAC 12 (just not last year).

But my sleeper pick to win the starting job is DJ Reed.
Reed was not heavily recruited, mostly because he was expected to play another year at Juco.
DJ had a teammate that signed with Iowa State (3 star rated recruit that also had an offer from Purdue).
DJ numbers were better last season.
DJ was the first person in his high school to ever be named the MVP in football -and- basketball. He has some athleticsm. DJ is a 3 to play 3 signee.

Bottom line, I believe the D-backfield is going to be MUCH BETTER than last year's unit
(well, unless the injury bug goes crazy again this year).

GO STATE !
