This is not the whole story but it is from the Creighton side.
Rasmussen convinced Altman that Creighton was willing to recommit to men’s basketball. And Altman was motivated for a fresh start. Yes, he was 1993 Big Eight coach of the year. Yes, he worked at a school that made the Elite Eight in 1988. Yes, he worked in a brand-new arena, Bramlage Coliseum.
But he was never the big personality that Kansas State fans wanted. And he couldn’t beat Roy Williams on the floor or on the recruiting trail.
Wrote one Kansas columnist in 1994: “Do you realize how embarrassing it’s been for KSU fans to endure year-round speculation about KU’s basketball recruits and hear zero about KSU prospects?”
Altman said yes to Creighton ... on one condition: If this goes public before the end of my season, I’m out.
