In general, I totally understand our philosophy on defense against these spread teams. But there are two things I will never understand.
It doesn't matter if its 3rd and 3, 3rd and 9, or 3rd or 23, we still give enough cushion to let them throw just beyond the sticks.
Blitzing.... We NEVER make any attempt to disguise our blitzes. We tell everyone who is watching exactly where we are blitzing. And then we NEVER back out of it. I can understand if you show your blitzes if you change it up and fake it every once in a while. That at least keeps the offense guessing still. Any maybe we would get lucky every now and then and our backer dropping out of the blitz would fall right into that shallow crosser.
