We know that Texas wants to place a satellite campus in Houston but the University of Houston is fighting that. They will let Texas in if they help them get placed in Big 12. This will happen because Texas holds pretty much all the cards to make it happen.

A lot of people seem to forget that Tulane was a long time member of the SEC. They withdrew from the league back in the sixties. I don't remember the exact reason they withdrew but they were the league's punching bag much like we were in the Big 8. I would not include them in our quest for expansion teams regardless of their academic standing. They are not bringing anything to the table. We already recruit in Louisiana.

Checking out Phil Steele's Preseason Power Poll rating this year you will find that three Big 12 teams are ranked outside of top 64. Iowa State, Texas Tech and Kansas. The teams we are most strongly looking to add to Big 12 Houston, BYU, Cincinnati and Memphis, only Houston is ranked ahead of K-State. Memphis' Power rank is 58. Houston is the highest ranked at 30. BYU is 43 and is about ranked about where we are at 41. Cincinnati is 53.
Boise State is 31.

I see a lot of people are saying if the Big 12 expands who in New York will watch them. If you put a good product on the field people will watch it including those in New York no matter who is playing. The idea with the expansion should be just that so adding Houston follows that line of thinking. BYU should be there too. Cincinnati's last four head football coaches have Mark Dantonio, Brian Kelly, Butch Jones and Tommy Tuberville. Not many schools can make a boast like that. Those are some quality coaches and Cincy is a quality program. Boise State should be in the running also if they think of football only membership. They have been a good program for quite some time now.

I cannot see us adding schools with no consistent successful history in football. That would eliminate most everybody else mentioned in expansion stories.

Here is the Big 14

Big 12 (Using I-35 split)
West
BYU 43
Boise State 31
Kansas State 41
Kansas 108
Texas Tech 67
Texas 24
TCU 11

East
West Virginia 44
Houston 30
Iowa State 73
Oklahoma 4
Oklahoma State 34
Baylor 14
Cincinnati 53

That kind of league would look good to ESPN/Fox.
