Driving to Vandy

Leaving from Wichita early Friday morning. GPS on the iphone has two different routes - one goes through KC and STL while the other goes through southern Missouri. Time is about the same, but the mileage on the STL route is a bit longer.

Anyone have any info on the southern Missouri route - looks like a lot of slow down small town action.
