Is Ertz really injured or are they just saying so to save face for him while starting Delton and Thompson? I suspect he really is injured or we likely would not have seen Thompson sent out to try to bring home the win down in the second half on the road, which also clearly indicated Delton was injured, as he had a great first half with the exception of the few plays after the targeting hit. It was pretty clear in the throws he made after that hit that he wasn't all there.
I love all of the guys who shed blood, effort, and time to play for the cats but I think for the team in the long run it is for the best that Ertz is out. Once it was apparent this team was not going to challenge for a CFP spot, or even a big 12 title spot, it was time to aim for a bowl, and prep for next season by getting some game time for next years QB.
I think this teams future looks much brighter with Delton and Thompson getting a significant amount of game time, than if they had sat the bench the rest of the season. Too many season's have started with us trying to break in a QB who had been in the system for years but never started a game, or seen action outside of mop up time.
I hope Delton is not concussed though with the rumors from last week and that targeting hit, I wouldn't be surprised if he is out for a while. Who is out 4th string QB?
