Nancy Crampton Brophy, an Oregon-based romance novelist and author of the 2011 essay "How to Murder Your Husband", was found guilty of murdering her husband. Jurors were not told about the essay but did learn Brophy owned a gun exactly like the done used to kill her husband before she collected his life insurance.
