President Donald Trump is dismissing as “fake news” reports that he was laughed at during the opening moments of his speech before the U.N. General Assembly.
Trump says the heads of states and delegates in the audience “weren’t laughing at me. They were laughing with me.”
Trump opened Tuesday’s speech by boasting about an American economy that he says is “booming like never before.” He also claimed his administration had accomplished more in the less than two years he’s held office than any other administration at the same point.
His boast elicited laughter from the audience.
People can either be laughing WITH you…or they can be laughing AT you.
Hint— Trump did not crack a carefully crafted joke and join in the appreciative chuckles. He didn’t even accidentally drop a comedic, self-deprecating faux pas and smile sheepishly at the reaction.
Trump trumpeted a broad self-congratulatory boast and got a very well heard, yet tactfully muted expression of DERISION.
Remember— Trump was nonplussed. He stopped and remarked: “I wasn’t expecting that…”
He really wasn’t expecting it. He doesn’t understand WHY they laughed.
What Trump, as the President of the United States of America, heard from an assortment of World Leaders and Ambassadors was nothing less than openly expressed Contempt".
