I am not in favor firing coaches mid-season unless there is some type of ethical/criminal issue. However, If you do fire them mid-season, don't let them coach out the season. NC State is allowing Gottfried to finish the season and they just went to Georgia Tech who is .500 in the ACC and won the game. Now that is just one game, but if they go on a role to finish the season, you are in a tough position. They also won at Duke so they have some talent. I believe that Gottfried had them in the NCAA at least four times so he has had some success. Football might be another story when you are definitely out of a bowl game, but strange things can happen in basketball.
