I spent the time during the game today in the ICU at Via Christi Hospital across the street from BSFS. My mother was retaining too much CO2 and, after a difficult night, the prognosis this morning was not favorable. Shortly after 11:00am, she was given medication to make her comfortable and was removed from all life sustaining equipment.
Sitting there waiting for the inevitable with my siblings, we finally decided that, Mom being the big K-State fan that she was, would be watching the game if she were conscious. Maybe more for our benefit than hers. So we turned it on with the score tied at seven. You all know what transpired in the minutes to follow. However, it soon became apparent to us that Mom wasn't going anywhere until that damn game was over! So we watched, and waited. And damned if the Cats didn't pull it out at the end. That seemed to be enough for Mom. She flatlined at 2:50pm.
So, for my 1,000th post, I just want to say a huge "Thank You" to the entire K-State football program for giving my Mom one more Wildcat victory before she left this Earth to meet her Maker.
