to Stanford.
From the ABQ Journal:
He kept the decision to himself for over a week. Late Sunday night, that eight day old secret was finally out: Cleveland’s Henry Hattis is going to Stanford. “I wanted to keep it a secret until I told the Stanford coaches personally,” the Storm senior offensive tackle and defensive end said Monday. “I did a lot of thinking with my parents and my family, and I came to the realization that this was the school for me.” UCLA, Arizona and Vanderbilt were high on Hattis’ list, which included no fewer than a dozen Division I programs that had offered him a scholarship. The genesis of his verbal commitment to Stanford began back in April, in Oakland, just across the bay from the Cardinal’s swank campus in northern California. Stanford first became aware of Hattis then, he said, and he later attended Stanford’s team camp at the end of June. Two weeks later, the Cardinal offered Hattis. “It was a difficult decision,” said Hattis, “but in the end it was the best fit. I’m very excited to be a part of Stanford. We have a chance to play for a national championship in a couple of years.” He was recruited as a tackle, but Stanford may also work him some at guard, he said. Hattis is 6foot6 and 270 pounds, mobile and versatile, and knows he’ll need to add some bulk before college. Hattis is a crucial member of Cleveland’s football team, widely considered the preseason favorite in Class 6A this year. “I’m very relieved,” he said. “I’ve seen how good of a team we have, and I really wanted to get this recruiting drama out of the way so I could focus on this season.” New Mexico and New Mexico State were both on the list of schools that were after Hattis.
