This past weekend, I was back in MHK for the Wildcats for Charity event, which raises money for a noble cause, the No Stones Unturned Foundation. Two things occured which I found interesting. KSU Legend and New England Patriots Hall of Famer, Steve Grogan was back for the event, along with many younger players. He was seated in the back of the room at a table, alone. His number is retired at K-State, he has received all the accolades he deserves and after 16 years in the NFL including some great years and playing in a Super Bowl, he was practically overlooked. I sat with him for a while and only about 5 people came up to meet him, while lines of people were getting autographs and pictures with other younger guys. Many of whom did not impact K-State as much or will have the type of career Grogan did. Also during the auction a score of autographed items were selling at phenominal numbers, even Steve's jersey did well, especially once he was announced as being there. But one item, another of a forgotten legend, was a Redskins helmet signed by Larry Brown. While he was the NFL MVP, 4 time pro-bowler and the co-captain of this years KSU Spring Game in KC, his item went for nothing, while things signed by hopefuls brought in a lot more. I always find it interesting to see how things are valued, how people are thought of and how easily great people are forgotten after their time in the spotlight has passed.
Steve Grogan is a gentleman and great representative of K-State, as is Larry Brown, even if forgotten by most.
