Reading over the comments in reaction to the AD announcement ... and reflecting over the focus on hiring the next football coach from "the family," ... and not with any intent to dig anyone over all that:
How have the K-State grads we've hired as head coaches over the years fared?
Kruger comes to mind, of course, and he enjoyed some success for the few years ... but also left us with a difficult transition.
The only other one I can remember is Ellis Rainsberger. His reign left us on probation for particularly humiliating reasons, leading to the observation that we could even cheat to win.
I suspect there may be others since my memory isn't the greatest and I don't know much about the history of minor sports -- so who would they be and how did they fare?
One thought about passing over Laird Veatch: He is young enough that further preparation under the new guy might prepare him to be an imposing candidate when the new guy retires -- if all goes well. There's something to be said for serving your time and he would seem to be in position to build a strong case for himself as the next guy.
