Here's a little gem I compiled years ago and keep updating, feel free to share.
1980's:
Comparing the Futility U of K-State football in the 1980's to the current Futility U of KU "football" is interesting and not something the KC media even wants to touch. K-State football was horrid during the 1980's and KU was better....BUT there gets to be a revisionist history that because KU was better than K-State in football in the 80's that they were "good"....not the case! K-State was 3-6-1 against KU during the 80's and 21-82-3 overall, KU was 38-68-6 overall. Both schools went to a bowl in that decade (and lost), both teams lost to lowly Wichita State (KU 82' & K-State 85'). K-State had a 3 year streak without winning a conference game (87, 88, 89 snapped in 90); while KU had a 2 year conference winless streak (86-87). During KU's CURRENT streak of losing, K-State football is pretty good.
All-time:
KU fans also love to throw in the "all-time" banter as if it's something a school with a poor football history should take pride in doing. The fact is, K-State holds the all-time lead in the Governor's Cup 27-19-1, and a KU fan would have to be 56+ years of age for their Squawks to even have a single game lead in the all-time series within their lifetime. KU's all-time advantage over the Cats hasn't translated into anything remotely tangible today, and it certainly hasn't prevented K-State from building a consistent Top 25 program over the last quarter century....and it hasn't prevented KU's program from being a perennial cellar dweller. Even if we’re late bloomers…I’ll take fairly consistent, CURRENT success over random, schedule driven anomalies through decades of poor football anyday! Just look at KU's “awesome” consecutive bowl record of 2! Or compare the peaks of Coach Snyder's tenure against the entirety of the Jayhawk football program. Coach Snyder has defeated more final Top25 teams in his time than KU has in the entirety of their program. Coach has been to more bowl games individually than KU has in it's history…not to mention, 7 TopTen BCS finishes, 3 Fiesta Bowls, 3 Cotton Bowls, 3 Heisman finalists, 2 BigXII titles, 73 wins in seven seasons, a victory in all 14 pre/post realignment BigXII stadiums, etc etc etc. Another favorite is when Squawks chirp "wait till Snyder dies", then you'll be terrible again. An objective fan knows that the game has changed since the 1980's, not just at K-State, everywhere. In the old Big8: K-State, KU, oSu, ISU, CU, Mizzou largely ignored football from a financial standpoint...no denying that...facilities and coaching salaries were embarrassing. That is gone....EVERYONE drops major resources into football and clearly understands that football is the key to surviving in today's landscape.
