I know it is a bit early to talk about this with Skylar having another year left (assuming he sticks around for that) and there still being a lot of football left to play this season, but I can't help but feel like the future at QB for K-State seems a little uncertain. My concerns are:
- John Holcombe is gone. He had arguably the highest ceiling of all the QBs on the roster.
- Nick Ast seems like a good back up, but I don't know if he has the talent to thrive at this level.
- Jaren Lewis may have some potential and seems to be developing at a decent rate, but he didn't strike me as a potential Power-5 caliber QB when watching his high school tape.
- Will Howard's current high school stats don't seem all that impressive. Not bad, but nothing that stands out to me. The same goes for his game tape. He seems to have good form and mechanics, but he doesn't strike me as a game changer.
- Chris Herron's future is most likely at WR. I suppose he could make a switch back to QB, but I don't see that happening. Also, if I remember correctly, his passing stats during his senior year were poor.
- I don't know much about Ryan Hennington. It seems like he had a decent career at Junction City, but walk-ons making a big impact at quarterback are the exception, not the rule.
- Hard work can only take you so far. I don't doubt that the prospects on the roster are willing to put in the work to get better, but at this level, you also need a certain amount of talent or at least an x-factor. I'm not sure the current prospects have that.
