With retention bonus for not leaving, Gary Patterson made $5.1 million with a base salary of $3.99 million.

Only seven football coaches had pay of $5 million or more on USA Today’s database of 2016 salaries. This season, new Texas coach Tom Herman will make $5.25 million, with the chance of an additional $750,000 in bonuses.

Since joining Big 12 in 2012, TCU is 25-20 in Big 12 (21-15 with Boykin). For comparison, over same time period, K-State was 29-16; Baylor 29-16; OSU 30-15; and OU 37-8
